The Mason County Animal Shelter is a county shelter in the west of West Virginia. Animals are held in accordance with state requirements, and are redeemed by the owner, adopted, or as a last resort; euthanized. We are a high intake county shelter and need rescue help! Our county commission limits us to 40 dogs and 36 cats.

All the adoptions would not be possible without the amazing support of our community. You are all making a difference for every animal here with every post share, heart emoji and comment. Your generosity with donations makes life better for the animals while they are here. We can all be proud of our accomplishments together. Let us keep raising the bar to expand, reach new people and keep getting the word out that there are so many animals we can save and help and that it feels good to contribute to your community and know you can make a difference.

Monroe County Animal League Union, WV 24983
Monroe County, WV is a small, rural county with no animal shelter or government animal control agency. The all-volunteer Monroe County Animal League was formed to attempt to deal with our county’s pet overpopulation problem through spay/neuter and adoption programs, and through educational programs to help local residents become more responsible in caring for their pets. In the past 6 years alone, over 2,800 animals have found caring new homes and/or been treated through MCAL’s spay/neuter assistance program. Monroe County does not have an animal shelter. Most of the pets you see as ‘available for adoption’ are fostered by our volunteers in their homes. These dogs are made part of the family until a forever home can be found. MCAL will also post "owner surrenders" for people needing to place their pet in another home for varying reasons. These pets are noted "owner surrenders" and MCAL can not accept any responsibility for the information posted and makes no representations of the owners. Adopters are encouraged to visit with the pet, obtain vet records, etc. prior to finalizing an adoption.

P.U.R.R. West Virginia Inc. Grafton, WV 26354
P.U.R.R. (People United for Rescue and Rehabilitation) West Virginia is a grass roots rescue effort, comprised of some loving people with a mission to change the fate of some of the abandoned and unwanted felines in the North Central West Virginia area. The focus of our effort is rescue and rehabilitation. Social, emotional, mental and physical. Bringing the abandoned and unwanted into our care means making the commitment to all four areas of a cat's being. We are dedicated to implementing new ideas in the area of population control, and reducing the misuse of euthanasia as a means to that end. Lorna is the director and a wonderful board of directors is behind the scenes doing outreach and growing the PURR. Rescue takes time, resources and dedication, but it is well worth the effort. Although we know we cannot take in all the cats, we can help one kitty at a time. We can educate and we can make a difference.
